Switzerland is considering confiscating more than $140m (CHF130m) from close associates of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. This was announced by the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website.
On February 15, 2023, the Swiss Federal Council decided to start the procedure for the confiscation of assets that were blocked after the events of early 2014. The confiscated funds can be transferred to the Ukrainian authorities under an international agreement.
Separately, the Swiss authorities stressed that this issue is not related to the sanctions against Russia, which were adopted after the start of a special military operation.
