Marriage swindlers who defrauded the Chinese of 3.5 million rubles were convicted in Cheboksary
Four swindlers who deceived Chinese men under the guise of “Russian brides” were convicted in Chuvashia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
The convicts corresponded with the Chinese and defrauded them of about 3.5 million rubles.
According to investigators, on behalf of potential brides, they agreed to come to China and get married, then received large sums from the grooms to cover expenses, after which they stopped communicating with them.
The swindlers themselves came to Cheboksary from Mari El, rented an apartment and set up a call center in it, from where they communicated on behalf of “Russian beauties” who dreamed of finding a foreign husband.
Their victims were three Chinese aged 42 to 56 from the cities of Wuhan, Xining and Guangzhou.
It is reported that a group of fraudsters was detained back in 2021, and now the court has sentenced them, according to which they received from 3.4 to 4.5 years in a penal colony.
