European short course swimming champion Anastasia Kirpichnikova changed her sports citizenship from Russian to French. She announced this on her social networks.
“I am pleased to announce an important change, which is my naturalization as a Frenchwoman. Thanks to this country that hosted me four and a half years ago. I am proud to represent France at the next World Cup,” wrote Anastasia Kirpichnikova on Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned).
Anastasia Kirpichnikova won three gold medals at the 2021 European Short Course Championships in Kazan. In the same year, she won silver at the World Short Course Championships in Abu Dhabi. She also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in pool and open water swimming.
Kirpichnikova has been living in France for several years. For the last two seasons, she has not played for the Russian national team. Earlier, the head of the All-Russian Swimming Federation, Vladimir Salnikov, announced her decision to change sports citizenship.
