British police have arrested a man as part of a criminal investigation into the death of 29-year-old hockey player Adam Johnson. The BBC reported this on Tuesday, November 14.
The coroner confirmed that death was due to a neck injury. Based on the results of the autopsy, an arrest was made. However, it is not yet known who exactly was taken into custody.
Nottingham Panthers forward Adam Johnson collided with another hockey player on the ice and received a severe cut to the throat with a skate blade during an English Championship match with the Sheffield Steelers club. Due to severe bleeding, Johnson lost consciousness right on the court. The athlete was hospitalized, but the efforts of the doctors were unsuccessful – the victim died in the hospital.
After the incident, the leadership of the National Hockey League (NHL) strongly recommended that players wear neck protection during matches. NHL Commissioner Bill Daly commented on the tragic incident with Johnson, calling on hockey players to exercise maximum caution.
