SUP-board rowing championship was held in Desnogorsk

The first stand-up paddleboarding competition in the history of the Smolensk region was held in the waters of the Desnogorsk reservoir. They were organized by the Smolensk NPP and the trade union of the nuclear power plant.
More than two dozen athletes of different ages took part in the races.
PPO Chairman Igor Khomyakov notes that the SUP boards were purchased at the initiative of the director of the Smolensk NPP, Pavel Alekseevich Lubensky. After that, the trade union committee members suggested that they decide to hold the first competition of this magnitude.
For the first time, only one distance was chosen – 200 meters. Next time it will be much more difficult.
Director General of the Center for Modern Sports Technologies of the Rosenergoatom Concern, Advisor to the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Sergey Fomin, stressed that the first SUP competitions were a new step in the development of sports in Desnogorsk, and especially among the younger generation.
In Desnogorsk, along with dragon rowing, kayaking and canoeing, SUP is gradually gaining popularity.
Since the competitions were the first, it was possible to overcome the distance to the best of one’s abilities and skills: lying down, sitting, standing on the board, the main thing is to overcome the distance and finish safely on time.
Both amateurs and professionals showed up for the competition, and those who saw the SUP board for the first time, but everyone coped with the distance, commented on what was happening, the section coach Eduard Pavlovsky. The main thing is that in addition to good physical activity, stand-up paddleboarding allows you to escape from everyday worries, get a charge of positive emotions, and also find friends and like-minded people.
Andrey Kukushkin, Anton Gavryutin, Anna Rakova, Nadezhda Ilenko became the winners of the competition in their age categories, Dmitry Leonov, Dmitry Rakov, Yulia Porshina and Svetlana Volkovich took the 2nd place. The third step of the podium was taken by Pavel Skopintsev, Alexander Barbakov, Elena Shevchenko and Marina Mikhalchik.
