Sunderland footballer Diamond was accused of rape – Kommersant

Sunderland footballer Jack Diamond, who plays in the first division of the English Football League (Championship), was accused of raping a girl he met on Tinder, reports the BBC.

According to prosecutors, the rape occurred on May 7, 2022, and Diamond committed it at his home. The 23-year-old athlete denies any wrongdoing.

Prosecution representative David Povall KC said that the footballer invited the victim to his home during a conversation on Tinder. The girl claims that she agreed to go to him to “cuddle.” During the trial in Newcastle, the jury heard that at the time when the victim went to Diond, she was avoiding sex because she was taking a course of medication, the BBC reports.

According to Mr. Povall, at first the guy and the girl started hugging, but then the footballer “wanted more.” The victim eventually agreed to have sex, and a short time later woke up to find Diamond “fondling” her, the prosecutor said. The girl said that the football player agreed to stop only after repeated protests and requests to stop, the TV channel reports.

According to the TV channel, the football player was suspended from matches back in March 2023. Diamond claims that the sexual activity between him and the victim was consensual. However, according to him, there was no sexual intercourse.
