Sudanese army announces 24-hour ceasefire

The Armed Forces (AF) of Sudan declared a truce for 24 hours with the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF), reported “RIA News”. The truce will last from 18:00 local time (19:00 Moscow time) until the evening of the next day.
Formerly SBR declared about readiness for a daily truce with the Armed Forces of Sudan after calls from “the United States and other friendly countries”, including Russia. The decision was made after a conversation between RRF Commander Mohammed Hamdan Daglo and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
The rivalry between the army and the RRF began during the reign of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who was overthrown in 2019. As RIA Novosti clarifies, the RRF was previously subordinate to the ex-president.
Last week in Sudan, it was planned to sign an agreement on the creation of a transitional civil authority in the country. The signing of the document was delayed due to the fact that the regular army and paramilitaries could not agree on integration. It was assumed that the RRF, led by General Mohammed Daglo, would enter the ranks of the army, but it was not determined how this process would take place and which body would control it.
On April 15, the RRF announced that they had taken control of two airports and the Khartoum Palace of the Republic, the presidential residence. As the reason for the clashes, the SBR called the fact that the regular army allegedly attacked them at one of the bases in the south of Khartoum. The Sudanese army also reports that RRF troops tried to attack its forces in the southern part of the capital. On the evening of April 15, Al Arabiya TV channel, citing a statement by the Sudanese General Intelligence Service, reported that the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan, Army Commander-in-Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued a decree disbanding the RRF.
It is now known about 300 people died during armed clashes, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said earlier in the day.
