Study reveals where nuclear threat is most feared

According to the results of the global End of the Year survey of respondents in 40 countries, conducted by the international association of research agencies Gallup International, the nuclear threat remains one of the main concerns for the inhabitants of the planet. The majority of those concerned live in Indonesia and Niger, while in Iran this percentage is minimal. Russians are in the middle of the list – only 20% of the country’s residents consider the threat to be high. The study was conducted by the Romir holding, the results of which were presented to RIA Novosti.

According to the report’s authors, two-fifths of those surveyed worldwide (40%) consider the risk of using nuclear weapons to be high, an almost equal share (37%) assesses this risk as moderate, and only 14% see no risk from the use of nuclear weapons. The rest found it difficult to answer.

Overall, there was no significant reduction in nuclear concerns over the year. Among countries where residents consider the nuclear threat to be minimal, Iran leads – every third respondent indicated this answer (33%). Three out of ten respondents (30%) in Armenia and almost the same number in Pakistan (29%) are of the opinion that the likelihood of using nuclear weapons is low.
