Students have created a “courier robot” to work in warehouses

DSTU endowed the car with the “ability” to signal a problem

Students of the Don State Technical University presented an autonomous “assistant robot” that moves along a specified route and reacts to obstacles with a special sound signal.

As MK was informed at the university, young specialists of the Institute of Advanced Technologies “School X” of DSTU decided to facilitate the work of warehouse workers. They presented their logistics robot SCATERS as part of the Priority 2030 program of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

The robot is an open small platform on four wheels with an LCD display, on which a load with a total weight of 10 kg can be placed.

The main feature of the development is navigation along a predetermined line-route, which is applied to the floor with a marker tape and a light and sound alert when it encounters an obstacle on the way. Faced with it, the robot stops on its own, thanks to the sensors placed around the perimeter. Also, a special wheelbase can be attributed to the chips, with the help of which the robot is able to overcome inclined surfaces. The machine is controlled by means of an LCD display, with the help of which the storekeeper indicates the destinations, between which lines are pre-lined. The computer can only choose the best path and start moving. An ordinary parking radar allows you to determine obstacles on the route, which measures the distance to objects and saves you from collisions. The device is powered by a rechargeable battery, which allows you to work autonomously for 2.5 hours, after which the device independently goes to the charging station.

Now the creators are working on improving systems for more accurate navigation and orientation in space, and are also planning to enter their development into the service logistics robotics market.
