Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova said that participants in the military operation in Ukraine will enter higher educational institutions on a separate quota. Those participants in the special operation who are already studying at universities in a paid department will be transferred to state-funded education “on a priority basis.”

“Participants of a special military operation will enter universities within a separate quota based on the results of entrance examinations. Those who are already studying on a paid basis will be given the opportunity, as a matter of priority, to switch to free education already in 2023-2024,” Ms. Golikova said during the operational meetings Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin with his deputies.

In addition, participants in the hostilities in Ukraine will have the opportunity to study free of charge at the preparatory department in universities. The same benefits are supposed to be extended to relatives of Russian doctors who died from the coronavirus “in the line of duty.” Corresponding amendments to the legislation and orders will be prepared in anticipation of the summer wave of admission to educational institutions.

May 23 Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation recommended Russian universities to support students who participated in the special operation, or their children. So, the department urged to provide them with material assistance, reduce the cost of education, provide installments to pay for education. May 25 Higher School of Economics (HSE) reportedthat, by decision of the rector of the university, Nikita Anisimov, he will train participants in the special military operation in Ukraine and their families on a free basis in excess of the quota established by the state at his own expense.
