At the beginning of July, the Stories feature will become available in the Telegram messenger. About it informed in his Telegram channel, the founder of the application, Pavel Durov.
“For years, our users have been asking us to bring Stories to Telegram. Over half of all feature requests we receive are related to Stories,” Durov wrote.
He noted that initially the company was against this format, since “Stories are already everywhere.” But in the end, the developers still listened to the users. Now the function is at the last stage of testing, the founder of Telegram specified.
According to Durov, the new format will allow the channels to increase their audience, since with Stories “it will become much easier to become viral in Telegram.” In particular, channels will be able to repost their messages in “history”.
When publishing, users will be able to set the circle of people to whom Stories will be available: all users, contacts only, a few selected contacts, or users from the list of “close friends”. It will also be possible to hide the stories of selected contacts in the “Hidden” list in the “Contacts” section. In addition, the user will be able to independently determine when the “story” will expire – after 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours. If desired, the publication can be displayed permanently on the user’s page.
In addition to tools for editing photos and videos, signatures, links and other people’s marks will become available in Telegram stories. Also, the new format will support a “dual” camera: users will be able to publish “stories” taken by the front and main cameras of the smartphone at the same time.
Instagram was the first to launch the Stories format (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned). Then “stories” appeared on YouTube, TikTok, VKontakte, etc. However, from June 26, YouTube refused from this format. The company explained the decision to remove “story” by the announcement of new features “both for short films and for posts in communities.” According to the company, YouTube intends to invest in “new and innovative tools to help you grow your audience” on hosting.
