Stores will be able to distribute products with an expiring date

The LDPR faction has submitted a bill that will allow Russian stores to distribute expired products to citizens. This proposal includes amendments to the Russian Tax Code and aims to eliminate VAT on such products and bottled water if they are distributed free of charge to the public.
According to the authors of the project, it is currently not profitable for retail chains to engage in such a practice, since they are exempted from paying taxes only for discarded expired products. However, the bill proposes to exclude from the list of goods that can be distributed children’s and diet food, as well as alcohol. The largest Russian retailers and specialized committees of the State Duma of the Russian Federation supported this initiative.
The bill is currently being submitted to the government for a response. Such a measure can be useful in combating food waste and helping people who have difficulty eating.
Providing end-of-life products free of charge will reduce product emissions and lower tax costs for retail chains. However, it is important to ensure the quality of such products and ensure their safety for consumers.
