In Belgorod, which has suffered several heavy attacks from Ukraine over the past two weeks, nine public transport stops were lined with sandbags and five stops with concrete slabs. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that modular structures will also be used for shelter.
“There is a very good idea on the part of the mayor of Belgorod, Valentin Valentinovich Demidov, to use modular structures that are manufactured for the Ministry of Defense. We will install them in crowded areas, including places where it is impossible to cover stops with sandbags or blocks,” Mr. Gladkov wrote on his page “In contact with”. He added that in this work the authorities will be guided by the “wishes, advice, vision” of local residents.
The issue of strengthening glass stops was raised at the beginning of the work week. Mayor of Belgorod assuredthat these facilities will be secured “as soon as possible.” In August 2023, in connection with shelling in Belgorod schools, sandbags and impact-resistant glass film were used as protection. Last spring, sandbags were used to protect retail outlets, bus stops and other facilities in the city of Shebekino.
Vyacheslav Gladkov also said that about 400 people have completed courses in primary pre-medical care in recent days. At the beginning of the work week he gave instructionsso that all government representatives undergo such training by the end of January. Assistance in conducting the courses, according to Mr. Gladkov, was offered by the famous surgeon Hero of Labor Leonid Roshal.
