NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will hold a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council on July 26 at the request of Kyiv. About this with reference to the press secretary of the alliance informs TV channel RTBF.
They specified that the purpose of the meeting is to “consult on the latest developments and discuss the transportation of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.”
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about a telephone conversation with the Secretary General in his Telegram channel. He discussed with Stoltenberg “the implementation of the agreements reached during the Vilnius summit of the Alliance, as well as further actions regarding Ukraine’s integration into NATO.” In addition, the parties shared their assessments of the situation in the Black Sea and the risks.
Russia left the grain initiative, which was signed on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey, the UN, Russia and Ukraine on July 17. The Kremlin explained this by the failure to fulfill the second part of the agreement, which concerns, among other things, the lifting of restrictions on the supply of Russian products. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the deal could be resumed if Russia’s demands were met.
On July 12, at the NATO summit in Vilnius, the first meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council took place. It is assumed that in the new body, the members of the alliance and Kyiv “sit as equal members” to “advance political dialogue, participation, cooperation and Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for NATO membership.”
