Supporting Ukraine is costly for Western society, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with Welt.
“Rising food and energy bills mean tough times for many households in Europe,” said he.
Stoltenberg also called the best way to achieve peace is to provide military support to Ukraine. Thus, according to him, Kyiv’s positions will be stronger in future negotiations. The head of NATO also praised the supply of weapons to Germany, in particular, German air defense systems.
Next week, foreign ministers intend to decide on providing even more support to Ukraine as part of a comprehensive assistance package, writes Welt.
Only direct, countable losses of the European Union from sanctions over the coming year may exceed $400 billion, pointed out previously Russian President Vladimir Putin during a speech at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
“This is the price of decisions divorced from reality and taken contrary to common sense. These costs are directly borne by the population and companies of the European Union,” the President said.
In October, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also declaredthat the West failed to correctly assess the consequences of the crisis in Ukraine, so now some countries are worried about the impending winter against the background of the energy crisis. The energy crisis in Western countries is caused by a reduction in Russian energy supplies to Europe, as well as sanctions against the Russian Federation in the energy sector. EU authorities have repeatedly recognized that Europe is in for a difficult winter. At the same time, they do not plan to lift the sanctions, explaining the problems that have arisen at the cost of Europe’s independence from Russia and its energy resources.
