Stavropol volleyball players became the strongest at the interuniversity world championship

The team of the student sports club “Kolos” from the Stavropol State Agrarian University (StSAU) beat all opponents in the volleyball competition at the 8th Interuniversity World Championships “World Inter Universities Championships” in Paris.
In 2023, the global interuniversity competition included 13 collegiate sports, one of which was volleyball. The only Russian team that participated in this category was the team of St. State Agrarian University “Kolos”. The core of the team was made up of athletes from the Stavropol State Agrarian University.
As part of the series of games, Kolos won a landslide victory over the teams of the Institute of Mountain Telecom from France (score 2:0), the University of Milan from Italy (score 2:0), and the Plovdiv Medical University from Bulgaria (score 2:0). A series of these victories ensured the Stavropol athletes reached the 1/8 finals, where Kolos beat the team of the IÉSEG School of Management from France with a score of 2:0.
In the quarterfinals, the Stavropol team competed with students from another French university, Pantheon-Assa, winning with a score of 2:0. Kolos’s opponent in the semifinals was the University of Qatar. During a tense match, the Stavropol team was again able to win (2:1). The game for first place against the Technical University of Bratislava from Slovakia ended with the victory of the Kolos team (2:0).
“This is the first time our university has participated in competitions of this scale and immediately received such a result. We have proven that Stavropol State Agrarian University can perform with dignity at the world level!” – commented the rector of StSAU Vladimir Sitnikov.
During the summing up of the results, the championship panel of judges deprived the only team from Russia of gold medals and the championship title because of the coat of arms of the Stavropol Territory on the sports uniform, which was not prohibited by the original competition regulations.
Despite such a biased decision, the leadership of SSAU expressed full support for the athletes.
“Team, you are handsome! The entire university is proud of you! With this act, the collective West once again showed duplicity and cowardice towards our country. We are proud of you! You are real champions!” – noted the rector of St. State Agrarian University Vladimir Sitnikov.
