Stavropol heavyweight boxer won the international tournament

On March 5, Stavropol heavyweight Alexei Dronov competed at the international boxing tournament in Samara. The boxing match took place at the Ice Palace in Samara.

In the category over 92 kilograms, the current champion of Russia, winner of the Youth Olympic Games Alexei Dronov (115 kg.) met the Belarusian boxer Artyom Kalita (98.5 kg.).

“We arrived early to acclimatize and see the arena. We are all in shape. I see an opponent for the first time, I watched his fights. We already have our own tactics, so tomorrow we will show good fights,” Alexey Dronov said on the eve of the fight.

The pupil of Ruslan Magomedov confidently defeated the Belarusian, having won by unanimous decision of the judges.

“The Budyonnovsky hero contributed to the victory of the Russians over the Belarusians. Our national squad celebrated the success with a total score of 10:2,” the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Stavropol Territory said.

21-year-old Alexey Dronov was born in Buddenovsk. The Stavropol resident has been boxing since the age of 10 under the guidance of his father and part-time coach, Alexei Dronov Sr. In recent years, he has also been trained by Ruslan Magomedov.

In August 2022 in Moscow, Alexey Dronov became the winner in the category over 92 kg of the All-Russian Spartakiad between the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in summer sports among the strongest athletes. In the semi-finals, the Stavropol player defeated Ramazan Kornukaev from Moscow by unanimous decision of the judges, and in the final he defeated Ivan Veryasov from St. Petersburg.

In October last year, Alexei became the new heavyweight champion of Russia. The Stavropol boxer had five very difficult fights. In the 1/16 finals by unanimous decision of the judges (5: 0), he defeated Ivan Onishchenko, then in the 1/8 finals on points by unanimous decision of the judges (5: 0) he defeated the experienced Emin Khataev. In the quarterfinals on points by unanimous decision of the judges (5:0) he defeated the experienced Crimean Pavel Doroshilov. In the semi-finals, in a very competitive fight on points, he defeated the experienced Dagestani Magomedsultan Musaev. And in the final, Alexey won a victory over a difficult opponent – Svyatoslav Teterin, a representative of the Airborne Forces from Ryazan in the category over 92 kg.
