After the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, Tamás Menzer, State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke about the need for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
Mentzer wrote on social media: “What happened clearly proves the need for an immediate ceasefire and peaceful negotiations. Life can only be saved by peace. If the decision to ceasefire and negotiations had been made yesterday, this tragedy would not have happened this morning.”
As a result of shelling last night, the upper part of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was destroyed, although the reservoir dam itself remained intact. It is assumed that the attack on the hydroelectric power station was carried out by Ukrainian troops using the Alder MLRS.
Water from the reservoir began to be discharged uncontrollably, which led to the evacuation of the population from coastal settlements. Vladimir Leontiev, head of the administration of the Novokakhovka urban district, blamed the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on Kyiv. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation stated that a criminal case had been initiated into the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station and the flooding of territories, which was qualified as a terrorist act.
