Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin announced the introduction of a state of emergency (ES) in the region. The cause was a forest fire in the Vorotynsky district. From today, August 19, it is also forbidden to visit forests in the region, including for hunting.
Mr. Nikitin said that preparations were underway for a possible evacuation from the nearest settlement to the fire. He also did not rule out additional restrictions – in particular, a temporary power outage. This measure may affect, first of all, the territories where there are high – the fourth and fifth – classes of fire danger.
“The situation is still unfavorable – heat and wind, which will intensify. I urge all residents of the region not to visit the forests! This can lead to tragic consequences and entail extremely serious responsibility, ”the governor wrote in Telegram.
A large forest fire began in the Vorotynsky district on August 11. In five days his area increased up to 3.3 thousand hectares. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the impassable swampy area is on fire, 22 km from the nearest settlement. Because of the fire in Nizhny Novgorod, smog is observed.
