State Duma deputy Kartapolov announced the need to adopt a law regulating PMCs

Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, believes that the Russian Federation needs to adopt a law that will regulate the activities of private military companies. He noted that the deputies are now working on the preparation and adoption of this law. He stated this in an interview with Vedomosti.

Mr. Kartapolov also commented on the attempted armed rebellion organized by the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin. In his opinion, the PMC members who were in Rostov-on-Don did nothing reprehensible and simply followed the orders of their command.

“They didn’t offend anyone, they didn’t break anything. No one has the slightest claim to them: neither the residents of Rostov, nor the military personnel of the Southern Military District, nor the law enforcement agencies. So what are their questions? There are no complaints about them. If they want to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense, they will sign it. If they don’t want to, then every person is free to choose his own destiny, he will do something else,” the deputy said.

Mr. Kartapolov spoke out against banning Wagner PMC. “Here, after all, all questions are for the head of the PMC. Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin.- ”b”) said that children are not responsible for their parents. The one who raised the rebellion must answer. We are used to chopping everything to the root,” he said.

According to the head of the defense committee, the Wagner PMC is the most combat-ready unit in the Russian Federation, and its dissolution would be the best gift for NATO and Ukrainians. Mr. Kartapolov said that the potential of PMC “Wagner” should be used to the maximum, but for peaceful purposes. He expressed the opinion that the PMC may need to change leadership. “Put someone there who will be more loyal, more specific, but whom the participants will respect and accept,” the deputy concluded.

June 13 Mr. Kartapolov informedthat the deputies will soon submit proposals to determine the status of PMCs. According to him, the deputies need to formulate fundamental provisions on the status of PMCs. At the same time, he stressed that much of what concerns the performance of PMC tasks in the NVO zone has already been settled.

On June 23, the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin accused the Ministry of Defense of hitting his company’s positions and said that his fighters were going to “deal” with Moscow. The FSB opened a criminal case on the organization of an armed rebellion. The situation was resolved by the evening of June 24 through the mediation of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
