State Duma Deputy Gusev proposed to deprive IT specialists useful for the army of armor

Dmitry Gusev, a member of the working group under the Ministry of Defense on mobilization issues, first deputy head of the Just Russia – For Truth party, believes that some scientists, engineers and IT specialists should be deprived of the opportunity to receive reservations from conscription during mobilization. According to him, they can help the Russian army in the military operation in Ukraine by working in laboratories and at computers.
“There are some specialists who fall under the reservation, who can serve in the army, but not necessarily on the front lines, for example, IT workers. Why give them a machine gun when it’s easier to give a mouse, and behind the computer screen they will do much more to win. They can serve in cyber troops,” Mr. Gusev said in an interview with Ura.ru.
Similar measures, the deputy believes, should be applied to biologists who can “with microscopes in their hands” develop antidotes for biological weapons, as well as physicists and engineers. “But this requires more precise settings for the army mobilization vehicle. How HR professionals do it in large corporations. That is HR,” added Dmitry Gusev.
In September 2022, the Ministry of Digital published a list of 195 specialties in the field of IT and communications, for which a deferment from mobilization was recommended. In addition to IT specialists, employees of Russian telecom operators, backbone registered media, organizations that ensure the stability of the financial market, as well as employees of defense industry enterprises have received the right to receive a deferment. Also, the Ministry of Digital Transformation began to discuss guaranteed reservations from military conscription for IT specialists who decided to return to Russia.
