The United States extended invitations to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to all members of the association, including Russia. Matt Murray, senior representative of the State Department for APEC, announced this during a briefing.
“The United States has invited all member economies to the leadership meeting,” he said (quote according to TASS), answering the question whether the Russian side was invited to the summit. Previously at the US State Department reportedthat Russia’s participation in the summit will take place “taking into account sanctions.”
The US expects Russian President Vladimir Putin will not participate in the APEC summit in San Francisco, reported in early October, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. After this, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov statedthat Russia will independently determine the level of its participation in the APEC summit. At that time, according to the diplomat, Moscow had not yet received an invitation to the event. The Kremlin previously said that they would inform in a timely manner who would go from Russia to the summit.
The APEC summit will be held this year from November 11 to 17 in San Francisco. The forum includes 19 countries and two territories, including Russia, China, USA, Japan, Canada, etc.
