The United States expects Russian President Vladimir Putin will not participate in the APEC summit in San Francisco. This was stated at a briefing by US State Department official Matthew Miller.

“He will not [участвовать] in November in San Francisco. I think we can all be clear enough [говорить] on this score. <...> We said that we would honor our obligations as host of APEC. But we [также] We will comply with our sanctions rules and regulations when sending out invitations,” said the head of the press service of the US State Department (quote according to TASS).

According to Miller, Putin is unlikely to attend the summit also because of his reluctance to participate in it. An official representative of the American Cabinet of Ministers said that he “would be very surprised” if the Russian president decided to fly to San Francisco for APEC.

The Russian Foreign Ministry previously reported the US decision not to invite Putin to the summit. According to Ambassador-at-Large Marat Berdyev, a number of leaders of other states will not be invited to APEC because of the sanctions announced against them.
