Stanislav Cherchesov flew out of work

The leadership of the Hungarian “Ferencváros” dismissed the head coach Stanislav Cherchesov. This happened immediately after the sensational departure of his team already in the first qualifying round of the Champions League football. The wards of the well-known Russian specialist lost to Faroese KI Klaksvik, which was noticeably inferior to them in class, with a score of 0:3, and even in their own field.
Former head coach of the Russian national team Stanislav Cherchesov, who in the past two years led the most popular Hungarian club Ferencváros, was fired after his team failed to overcome the first qualifying round of the Champions League. Few doubted that she would calmly pass the more than modest “Klaksvik” from the Faroe Islands. Although Ferencváros is also far from being a Eurofootball grandee, whose composition is estimated by Transfermarkt at only €53.4 million, they were opposed by an opponent whose transfer fee is only €2.68 million.
The first match in the Faroe Islands ended in a goalless draw, and a sensation erupted in the second leg. In Budapest, Klaksvik scored three unanswered goals by the break. And no matter how hard Ferencváros tried to avoid a fiasco, he failed to change the score.
At the post-match press conference, Cherchesov took the blame for the defeat on himself, but was not going to submit his resignation. “Last year, we also experienced something similar,” said the coach of the Hungarian club. “But then I did not give up, and then we were able to reach the 1/8 finals of the Europa League. I won’t give up now. I have to analyze what happened and see if we can get out of this situation together or not.”
But the president of Ferencváros, Gabor Kubatov, considered that there was nothing to analyze here, and fired the head coach. “As a result of a personal conversation with Stanislav Cherchesov, we decided not to continue cooperation,” the head of the club wrote on his page on the social network. And he added that he was very ashamed.
Even past achievements did not help the Russian coach, and he twice led Ferencvaros to victory in the Hungarian Championship and won the national Cup with him. Last season, the team even made some noise in the Europa League, taking first place in the group with Monaco, Turkish Trabzonspor and Serbian Red Star, which allowed it to break into the 1/8 finals, where it lost to the German Bayer.
Formally, even now Ferencváros has not yet been eliminated from European competitions, having received the right to continue playing in the Conference League qualification. In this tournament, it would be even easier for the Hungarian club to succeed – and it is possible that under the leadership of Cherchesov. But the president of Ferencváros dreamed of getting into the group stage of the Champions League, where the Budapesters had already played not so long ago – in the 2020/2021 season.
In addition, under this task, they thoroughly strengthened the composition. Not to say that they spent a lot, but they laid out €6.7 million for newcomers, including €2 million paid to Krasnodar for Christian Ramirez. True, they did not have time to declare the Ecuadorian defender for the matches with Klaksvik in Ferencvaros. Yes, and Cherchesov, apparently, did not have time to deal with a large number of new players, and as many as ten people came. As a result, they have not so much strengthened, but rather unbalanced the composition. Probably, a certain underestimation of the opponent by the favorite also affected. However, Cherchesov’s wards should have beaten Klaksvik, probably in any condition, taking into account the significant difference in class between the Hungarian and Faroese teams.
