Sports coaches will be taught to work with those who received a disability during a special operation

Training modules on working with the military who were injured or disabled during the hostilities in Ukraine will be included in the training program for sports coaches. This was announced by a member of the working group on the special military operation and the head of the Federation Council committee on social policy, Inna Svyatenko.

“The training program for trainers will include training modules for working with participants in the special operation. This will help to provide professional assistance in the rehabilitation and social adaptation of injured NWO participants,” said Ms. Svyatenko, her words are quoted by the United Russia press service.

According to the senator, Paralympic athletes, graduates of sports universities and psychologists are ready to participate in the adaptation of combatants with disabilities, and specialized universities will help organize this work. For example, she noted that the Moscow State University of Sports and Tourism presented the Healthy Return project. It should help give the military with disabilities new professions.

The Russian authorities do not name the number of servicemen with disabilities among the participants in the military operation in Ukraine. In 2019, according to the Ministry of Labor, only 1.1% (132 thousand people) out of 12 million people with disabilities received this diagnosis during their military service.

Other statistics leads The Federal Register of Disabled Persons, which takes into account only those who were injured “in defense of the Motherland, at the front, military service on the territory of other states.” According to the registry, by the beginning of 2022, there were about 49 thousand military invalids in Russia. Usually their number is reduced by a few thousand a year, but in April last year, the number stopped declining. In July, it was positive for the first time since 2017. Thus, the number of soldiers with disabilities who received it recently exceeded the number of deceased soldiers who received this diagnosis earlier.
