Sports boom: in Orel for 5 years, the number of athletes has grown by almost 20%

Over the past 5 years, the number of residents of the Oryol region involved in physical culture and sports has increased by 19%. This became possible thanks to the implementation of the regional project “Sport is the norm of life”. According to the press service of the Government of the Oryol region, today more than 316 thousand people in the region adhere to an active lifestyle.
As part of the implementation of the “Sport is the norm of life” project, many sports facilities were built and repaired, new sections and clubs were opened, and many events were held to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Over one five-year period, the proportion of Orlovites who regularly engage in physical culture and sports increased from 30.4% to 49.5%. However, the Oryol authorities are not going to stop there and are planning the further development of the sports direction. By 2024, they want to involve 52.9% of the region’s population in systematic classes.
Thus, thanks to the work carried out in the Oryol region to develop sports and physical culture, the inhabitants of the region are becoming healthier and more active, and official figures confirm that such measures are really effective.
