Germany intends to send seven self-propelled anti-aircraft guns (ZSU) “Gepard” (Gepard) to Ukraine in the spring, which were previously planned to be disposed of, transmits Spiegel edition.
“Seven cheetahs, which were actually intended for disposal, are now being repaired by the Munich arms company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), and in the spring they should be delivered to Ukraine,” the newspaper notes.
The country’s government also hopes that after that it will be possible to supply additional ammunition for air defense systems. 35mm ammunition is currently in short supply, adds Spiegel.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz acknowledgedthat the country’s armed forces are experiencing a shortage of ammunition. “Over the past few decades, we have taken the wrong course when it comes to providing the Bundeswehr with ammunition,” he noted.
The Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of Germany noted that the German authorities in the first three quarters of 2022 issued permits for the supply of military products to Ukraine in the amount of 775 million euros. Among the weapons delivered to Kyiv are Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers, Mars multiple launch rocket systems, Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, and the IRIS-T air defense system.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in turn, more than once pointed out to the fact that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
