Spending by Russians on antidepressants in 2022 increased by 70%

For the first nine months of 2022, Russians spent 5 billion rubles on antidepressants and 13.9 billion rubles on sedatives. Spending on antidepressants increased by 70% compared to the same period in 2021, on sedatives – by 56%. This was reported TASS with reference to the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CTPR).

According to the CTPR, in January-September, Russians purchased 8.4 million packs of antidepressants, which is 48% more than in the same period in 2021. Most often, drugs were bought in Moscow (1.3 thousand packs per 10 thousand adults), St. Petersburg (1.2 thousand), Moscow region (976), Karelia (939) and Rostov region (909).

During this period, the Russians purchased 108 million packages of sedative drugs, which is 44% more than in 2021, according to the CTPR. The leading regions in sales of sedatives were the Pskov region (14 thousand packages per 10 thousand adults), the Tver region (13 thousand), the Tambov region (12.9 thousand), the Lipetsk region (12.8 thousand) and Smolensk region (12.7 thousand).

According to CTPR, in the first nine months of 2022, the production of antidepressants in Russia increased by 24% compared to the same period last year, and sedatives – by 21%. During the same period, imports of antidepressants increased by 41%, and sedatives decreased by 12%.

Earlier, the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) reported that about 70% of Russians feel anxious. The peak of anxiety came at the end of September, when the authorities announced a partial mobilization.
