Spending by Russians in the sharing economy segment increased by 21% in 2023 – Kommersant

The average bill in the rental and rental market in the main categories of the sharing economy in 2023 increased by 15%, to 1,132 rubles. At the same time, the number of purchases increased by 21% compared to 2022. This data is provided by the Check Index resource of the OFD Platform. The highest growth in the rental market is in 2023 – the number of purchases increased by 32%, and the average bill – by 18%.

According to the company “Take Charge!”, the volume renting powerbanks in 2023 increased by 67%, and the average rental bill was 176 rubles, or 50% higher than in 2022. The increase in new users at the end of the year was 55%.

The second segment in terms of annual growth in the sharing market is scooter rental. The average bill in this segment increased by 15%, to 287 rubles, and the number of purchases increased by 21%. The number of purchases on the market increased by 29% at the end of the year, and the average bill by 12%, to 610 rubles. Growth is also observed in the market bike sharing – the average bill for renting a bicycle increased by 10%, to 544 rubles, the number of purchases – by 30%.

There is growth in the market rental of equipment for construction and repair — the average bill is 2,920 rubles, 14% higher than a year earlier. The number of purchases in the category increased by 23%. The winter sports equipment market showed the smallest increase – 11%, and the average bill – by 8%, amounting to 412 rubles.

“Against the backdrop of growing consumer confidence, the rental and rental services sector also grew last year. The majority of sales in this sector are concentrated in large cities, centers of tourist attraction, where there is a sufficient user base… The sharing economy in the country is in a growth phase, covering more and more industrial groups of citizens’ needs. The more new categories there are, the higher the popularity of this trend in new niches,” experts from the Check Index service note.

As Kommersant previously wrote, due to rising prices for the purchase and maintenance of personal cars, as well as higher prices for taxi trips, the car sharing market in 2024 will grow by almost 41% year on year.
