“Spartak” lost to the leader of the Premier League “Krasnodar” and was seven points behind

In the seventh round of the Russian Football Championship, Krasnodar defeated Spartak 2-0 at home. Now the Kubans have 17 points, and they are still in the lead in the Premier League. Wings of the Soviets moved up to second place with 14 points, beating Fakel 3-0.
Match Krasnodar – Spartak was from the same category “for six points”, and for the red-whites even for seven. After all, they were four points behind the leader of the Premier League, which in case of defeat turned into just seven. Meanwhile, the team of Guillermo Abascal did not win for three rounds in a row, taking only one point in them. And although she broke through in the Cup of Russia, where she recently crushed Dynamo 4:1, that didn’t mean anything yet. In cup meetings, there is still no such responsibility for the result as in the championship, and under pressure, Spartak played much worse than without it, and did not cope with the first serious tests in the starting segment of the championship, losing to Ural and Zenit.
The match with Krasnodar was another test of maturity and willingness to solve big problems in the Premier League for the red-whites. Yes, during the current season they have already won in Krasnodar, but again this happened within the framework of the Russian Cup, and in the championship the Kuban showed balanced and very reliable football, not suffering a single defeat and conceding only two goals.
True, immediately before the match with Spartak, Krasnodar lost the lead. Wings of the Soviets took the first place after the victory over Fakel. Samarans opened the scoring from a penalty kick, which was earned and converted by Fernando Costanza, and in the end won a big 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Amar Rakhmanovich and Vladislav Shitov. Thus, they had 14 points, and they were ahead of Krasnodar in additional indicators. At the same time, Ural, having lost at home to Akhmat 0:1, remained with 13 points.
Considering the importance of the match in Krasnodar, the teams started it rather cautiously. Ten minutes exactly left for reconnaissance, and then the long-suffering Spartak defense gave the first crack.
The defender of the guests Daniil Denisov made a technical mistake in the penalty area and unwittingly played along with the Krasnodar “top ten” Eduard Spertsyan, who lacked a bit of accuracy when hitting. However, then there was a certain calm again.
The red-whites in front generally had almost absolute silence. Teo Bongonda on the right and Quincy Promes on the left rarely found themselves on the ball, and Alexander Sobolev, who was put forward on the edge, was closely guarded by Krasnodar newcomer Vitor Tormena. It seems that the mentor of the hosts, Vladimir Ivic, specially released the tall Brazilian under the powerful striker of Spartak. In addition, guests too often climbed offside. Only around the 35th minute, Promes managed to aggravate the game at the opponent’s goal, and Sobolev managed to hit the target and at least slightly stretch goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.
It could be assumed that the first half, which was very dry in terms of scoring chances, would end in a goalless draw. But here again something cracked in Spartak’s defensive formations, the harmony of which was broken by a simple throw-in of the ball from out to John Cordoba. The Colombian “bull” single-handedly crushed Alexis Duarte with Denisov and Georgy Jikia to boot. Competently put the case, turned around and hit the bottom into the dead zone for goalkeeper Alexander Selikhov.
The Muscovites could also score before the break, when Promes inside the penalty area conveniently rolled the ball to Roman Zobnin, but Safonov averted the threat and blocked Mikhail Ignatov, who was trying to play the rebound. At the same time, Abaskal’s wards could have missed after Denisov’s “bringing in”, which led to the exit of Nikita Krivtsov one on one with Selikhov. The Krasnodar player even circled the goalkeeper, but Nail Umyarov managed to save the team in a desperate tackle.
In the second half, Spartak finally went on the attack, and Sobolev unstuck from Tormena and hit the crossbar with a volley after Bongonda’s serve. However, he also ran into counterattacks, in one of which Cordoba flew to the gate, and only the excellent reaction of Selikhov did not allow the striker to issue a double. Although Safonov has already entered the game noticeably more often and even made a mistake by dropping the ball, the guests did not take advantage of this. And so the Krasnodar defense, the least missed in the Premier League, did not provide them with clear scoring chances. The hosts acted confidently enough on the score, and it did not look slippery against the background of their disciplined, organized, systemic defense.
And the last hopes of “Spartak” for a positive outcome were dispelled by the same Denisov, who brought a penalty, giving a careless pass to Selikhov.
Alexander Koksharov intercepted the ball and forced the goalkeeper to break the rules. Spertsyan not so long ago already missed from the 11-meter mark, but this time he did not flinch. Krasnodar won 2-0 and returned to the first place with 17 points. Whereas the red-whites, who extended their winless streak to four matches, are stuck in the middle of the standings with ten points, and now the language will not dare to call them contenders for medals, and even more so for the championship.
