Dutch football player, Spartak Moscow midfielder Quincy Promes may be extradited from the UAE to the Netherlands, the portal reported Voetbalzone. In the Netherlands, a football player is suspected of drug smuggling. He was also sentenced by the Amsterdam court to serve a sentence in prison for attacking his cousin.
Earlier, Quincy Promes published on Instagram (owned by the extremist and banned in the Russian Federation Meta) a photo from a birthday celebration in Dubai. There is an agreement between the UAE and the Netherlands on the extradition of accused or suspects, Voetbalzone notes.
A representative of the prosecutor’s office said that they were aware of Promes’ trip to the UAE, but declined to comment further. Spartak’s lawyer told the publication Sports24that the football player does not face extradition, since the verdict of the Dutch court has not yet entered into force.
In June, an Amsterdam court sentenced Quincy Promes to one and a half years in prison for aggravated assault on his cousin. The incident occurred in July 2020. According to media reports, the player had an argument with his cousin during a party and stabbed him. The verdict is not yet considered final because the defense has filed an appeal.
In another case, Quincy Promes is suspected of paying a drug dealer €250,000 as compensation for a missing shipment of 400 kg of cocaine. He was also suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.
32-year-old Quincy Promes has been playing for Spartak since 2021, having previously played for the Moscow club from 2014 to 2018. In total, he played 235 matches for Spartak, in which he scored 114 goals.
