Spain’s PM urges people to stop wearing ties

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has proposed not wearing a tie at work to cut down on electricity consumption.
Pedro Sanchez has reached out to people working in both the public and private sectors to stop wearing ties at work in order to save energy.
The official appeared at the press conference wearing a blue jacket and a white shirt with an open collar. Sanchez explained that he dressed less formally for a reason, but in order to reduce the consumption of utilities – presumably, he meant the electricity consumption of the air conditioner, but this was not specified.
“Please note that I did not wear a tie. This means that each of us can do our part and reduce the consumption of electricity,” the Prime Minister said at a press conference on the annual results of his government. He urged ministers and government officials not to wear a tie unless necessary.
Spain has been experiencing abnormal heat for more than a month now, with temperatures in some parts of the country often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. However, the Spanish government has urged people to reduce their energy bills and not to overuse the air conditioner.
Rising energy prices have become a major concern for Spain in recent months. In June, in an effort to alleviate the economic crisis in Spain, the government announced a €9 billion national relief plan for the country’s continued economic downturn, including cuts in electricity taxes and a €200 lump sum for low-income people.
