The ship was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on the night of February 24th. He flies to the ISS in an unmanned mode. Soyuz MS-23 is carrying about 430 kg of cargo. including equipment for scientific experiments, means of ensuring the gas composition and water supply, etc. In addition, there are three times more food on board than is usually the case.
It is Soyuz MS-23 that will have to return Russian cosmonauts Sergei Prokopiev and Dmitry Petelin and NASA astronaut Frank Rubio to Earth. It was previously planned that they would return home on Soyuz MS-22. But after the depressurization of the thermal control system on it, the plans changed, it was decided to de-orbit the emergency ship. It is planned that Soyuz MS-23 will stay in orbit until September 27, 215 days. In this case, Prokopiev, Petelin and Rubio will set a new record for staying on the ISS – 370 days.
