Soyuz launched from Plesetsk with Glonass-K navigation satellite

The Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the Glonass-K navigation spacecraft was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. The launch was carried out at 05:52 by the combat crews of the Aerospace Forces.
According to the Ministry of Defense, all pre-launch operations and the launch of the Soyuz took place as usual. At 06:01, the Fregat upper stage also separated from the launch vehicle on a regular basis. It is assumed that the launch of the satellite into the calculated orbit will take several hours.
Glonass-K is a new generation of navigation satellites of the GLONASS system. The production of the satellite is carried out by JSC “Information Satellite Systems” named after. Academician M.F. Reshetnev (ISS, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation). The device was created to replace the “Glonass-M”.
In January reportedthat more than ten GLONASS satellites are in production, including four of the latest generation of Glonass-K2. According to GLONASS General Designer Sergey Karutin, the new Glonass-K2 satellites will provide navigation accuracy of less than 30 cm.
