Yonhap: South Korea and the United States began military exercises on the border with the DPRK
South Korea and the United States have launched joint live-fire military exercises near the border with North Korea, sparking backlash. The agency informs about this Yonhap.
The exercise started on December 29 and is due to end on January 5.
“South Korea’s Capital Mechanized Infantry Division and the U.S. Stryker Brigade Combat Team…have mobilized to participate in the exercise, which is taking place in the border city of Pocheon…,” the publication said.
They involve K1A2 tanks, A-19 combat aircraft, Stryker armored vehicles and artillery installations.
In response, North Korean state publications wrote that South Korea began 2024 with “self-destructive” actions, and the chances of a conflict between the two countries were high.
At the same time, the South Korean Republic pointed to the previously started traditional exercises of North Korean troops, which should continue until spring.
