South Africa confirms Putin’s invitation to BRICS summit

South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to the BRICS summit, which will be held in this country in August.
“President Putin, one of the BRICS leaders, has been invited to the summit,” the EFE agency quoted her as saying. “Let the warrant from the International Criminal Court be some cause for concern,”
Pandor recalled that in the past she had repeatedly pointed out double standards in international issues. “There are many other states involved in conflicts, but the ICC was not interested in any of them,” the South African minister said. The current situation, according to her, is cause for concern, as it casts a shadow on the objectivity of the ICC as a fair arbitrator.
On March 17, the Pre-trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. The press secretary of the head of the Russian state, Dmitry Peskov, called the very formulation of the issue unacceptable and outrageous, he recalled that the Russian Federation does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC.
In August, the BRICS summit is to be held in the South African city of Durban. It is known that South Africa has ratified the fundamental documents relating to the ICC.
