Sony Japan branch announced, which stops accepting the PlayStation4 Pro console and PlayStation VR virtual reality headset for repair due to a lack of spare parts. Those who placed an order for repairs before December 20 will be able to take them to the service department until January 5, 2024.

At this time, it is not clear whether the announcement only applies to the Japanese market or service centers outside of Japan. The German resource GamePro.de, citing the response from Sony Germany, suggestedthat in the near future this problem will affect the European market. There are also third-party companies on the market that produce components for PS4 Pro and PS VR, but repairs can take much longer and be more expensive without an official warranty. PS4 and PS VR came out at the end of 2016.

Earlier in 2021, Nintendo announced it would stop repairing Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL consoles. Sony in December 2023 stated about 50 million PS5 consoles sold.
