In some European countries, there is a decline in enthusiasm for Ukrainian refugees, according to AP News.
In its special report, the European Commission notes that “solidarity fatigue” is beginning to emerge in some member states with regard to refugees from Ukraine.
EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson stressed that support for four million Ukrainian refugees remains unchanged, but some countries are getting tired of it.
EU Special Adviser on Ukraine Lodeivik Asher noted that the cost of living crisis has affected low- and middle-income families in refugee-hosting countries. He stressed that while solidarity still exists, there are signs of fatigue, especially among the most vulnerable refugees and the local population.
Data from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees show that from the beginning of the crisis from February 24 last year to May 23 this year, 8,255,288 Ukrainian refugees arrived in Europe. More than five million of them have registered in European countries as part of national assistance programs.
