The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) suspended Russia’s membership in the organization. The decision was made by the IFJ Executive Committee at a meeting in Brussels on February 22, and initiated by the Nordic Union of Journalists (Denmark, Norway, Sweden). Claims arose after the SZHR opened its branches in new regions of Russia.
The head of the UJR, Vladimir Solovyov, called the decision of the executive committee of the International Federation of Journalists political and not based on the charter of the organization.
At the same time, Solovyov stressed that the decision would not entail any consequences for Russian journalists. “There are no consequences. We will not pay huge contributions, that’s all,” Soloviev said.
