After Ludovic Pommeret on the TDS, it’s Blandine l’Hirondel’s turn to bring victory to France in this eventful week of the UTMB: the Frenchwoman wins the 100 km event and 6,000 m of elevation gain between Courmayeur and Chamonix, passing by Switzerland. With a comfortable lead halfway through the race (more than 20 minutes), the Frenchwoman nevertheless had to work hard to cross the Chamonix finish line in the lead (11:43 a.m.): the Nepalese Sunmaya Budha was launched at his pursuit but fails 5 minutes from the French. The American Abbie Hall completes this women’s podium.
On the men’s side, we expected the talented Jonathan Albon, winner of the 2021 OCC and true trail running virtuoso this season. But the Briton had to bow to someone stronger than him on Saturday: Peter Engdahl, a former cross-country skier, achieved an exceptional score by starting alone from the first kilometers of the race and finishing as a solid winner in Chamonix. in 9:53 a.m.
The Swede is thus the first runner to go under 10 hours on the CCC and thus sets the record for the event. Briton Albon is 2nd, when Andreas Reiterer completes the podium. On the tricolor side, Thibault Baronian, 3rd in 2021, suffering from various physical problems had to abandon Trient. The best French performance is to be attributed to Baptiste Chassagne who takes 10th place.
