Softline will develop a domestic operating system

System integrator Softline develops its own operating system for PC. About it informs Kommersant, citing its own sources.
The new OS is based on the technologies of the National Support and Development Center, which Softline bought in 2021. The OS will be based on Linux.
The company plans to deliver its solution to the consumer and public sectors. At the same time, there are already enough Russian operating systems on the market, Kommersant sources say. Softline will have to invest heavily in improving its own operating system, and these investments will be difficult to recoup.
The National Support and Development Center has developed MSVSfera, a Linux-based operating system for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The technology acquired from NTsPR cost Softline $10 million, CNews reported.
In April 2023, Vedomosti reported that the authorities of the Kaliningrad region were negotiating with Softline to produce laptops in the region. The company itself is moving away from the status of an integrator and distributor and intends to invest in software development, Alexei Smirnov, head of the board of directors at Basalt SPO, told Kommersant.
In July 2022 Softline divided business into two parts, having singled out Russian assets into a separate structure.
