Sociological dictation: what is it and how to pass it

On November 14, 2023, the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) is conducting an all-Russian sociological dictation for the fourth time. What kind of event this is and how to register for it is in the Kommersant information.
What is sociological dictation
Sociological dictation is an online educational event organized by VTsIOM. It was first held on Sociologist Day on November 14, 2020. Dictation helps you test your knowledge of social science and research in real time.
In 2023, the event will be held in two formats – online and offline. The main offline sites of the marathon are schools, universities, libraries and other public spaces. In addition, a live broadcast will be conducted at the main site of the Social Dictant (Moscow, VDNKh, pavilion No. 32 “Cosmos”). Invited guests and VTsIOM General Director Konstantin Abramov will talk about the results of the dictation and discuss certain issues with experts.
How to register
The opportunity to take the dictation in 2023 is open on November 14 from 0:00 to 23:59 Moscow time. To do this on website You need to register with VTsIOM using your phone number and email and receive an access code. After this, you need to fill out a short questionnaire online: gender, place of residence, level of education.
Rules of sociological dictation
Anyone with a Russian mobile phone number can participate.
The dictation contains 31 questions on the topic of sociology and research, answering which correctly the participant can receive a maximum of 100 points.
The time limit for answers is 45 minutes; you cannot pause the time.
Each participant receives a certificate with points, provided they complete the dictation to the end, as well as fill out the post-questionnaire.
Dictation questions are formulated by experts, but anyone can propose a question and become a co-author of next year’s dictation. To do this, you can send your question to [email protected].
How to find out the result
To find out your result and download the certificate, after the dictation you need to log into your personal account at portal VTsIOM via the phone number specified during registration. The correct answer options with expert comments will be available to all participants after the completion of the dictation on November 15 on the promotion website.
