State Duma deputy Dmitry Gusev (A Just Russia – For Truth, SRZP) held a working meeting on protecting Moscow from drones. The deputy, who is running for mayor of the capital, previously announced the “anti-drone dome” as one of the elements of his election program, and this topic was updated by the Sunday raid of Ukrainian drones on Moscow City.
“Air defense systems, of course, work, electronic security works: if they didn’t work, more drones would fly in. Everything that can be done is being done, but these efforts are clearly not enough,” explained Mr. Gusev. And he proposed to involve in the work “experts, production workers and the Kulibins”, who during the special operation developed many devices aimed at combating drones.
Another Duma deputy from the SRZP, Dmitry Kuznetsov, said that the party members had already created a “defense innovation center” for this: within its framework, the “Russian Ilona Masks” made equipment from both Chinese and “not very Chinese” parts, which, after completion “friends from the army laboratories” turned into working models of “domes” and anti-drone guns.
Designer Anton Berezhkov presented one of these developments at the meeting, demonstrating a video system capable of recording, and in the future, using neural networks, also recognizing drones without the participation of an operator. “The task is to ensure that not the UAV itself, but its fragments land on the heads of citizens,” deputy Kuznetsov instructed the experts. Experts, on the contrary, advised drones to land in different ways without first splitting them into pieces.
After that, the floor was given to a certain “representative of a commercial NGO”, who presented to the participants of the event a ready-made and, according to him, already used in Asia anti-drone complex of Russian development. The proposed version had both an “eye” for detecting UAVs and a “sword” for neutralizing them. However, at that moment, at the request of the speaker, the journalists were removed from the hall, and the media failed to find out the exact characteristics of this device.
Dmitry Gusev was satisfied with the results of the meeting. “It turns out that for 2 billion rubles. and in half a year it is possible to build a system that will protect Moscow from drones,” he shared his impressions with Kommersant. “There are ready-made solutions that have been tested, made and used. It’s already working somewhere.” The deputy promised to send letters with a presentation of the projects he liked to the FSB, the Ministry of Defense and the Moscow government.
