A telephone conversation between Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled for August 2. This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
“Indeed, a telephone conversation, as Putin said, is planned for Wednesday,” Pekov specified.
July 29 Putin told journalists that he agreed with Erdogan on a meeting, while not ruling out the visit of the Turkish leader to Russia. Putin also explained that they tried to talk on the phone, but the time offered by Erdogan did not suit him. And the time proposed by the President of Russia did not suit the Turkish leader. “Well, we agreed to talk, in my opinion, on Wednesday. We will talk there and decide,” Putin said.
Earlier, Erdogan repeatedly stated his desire to talk with his Russian counterpart and discuss, among other things, a grain deal. In the middle of July he pointed outthat Türkiye is preparing for Putin’s visit in August. Erdogan announced plans to discuss with Putin the purchase of several Russian amphibious aircraft to fight forest fires, as well as personally talk with him about the transfer of the commanders of the Ukrainian Azov battalion (recognized as terrorist in Russia and banned) to Kiev. However, Peskov said that the date of the talks between the two leaders has not yet been determined.
July 25, Assistant to the President of Russia Yuri Ushakov told journalists that Putin might visit Turkey and China, he did not name the exact dates of the visits. According to him, Putin promised Erdogan to come to Turkey. At the same time, Ushakov noted that during this visit or during the upcoming telephone contacts with Erdogan, the issues of the grain deal will be raised.
