Sochi to host major sporting events in 2024

In February 2024, Krasnaya Polyana will host bobsleigh and luge competitions as part of the All-Russian Spartakiad between Russian regions in winter sports.
It is expected that 260 leading bobsledders, lugers and skelenotists of Russia will come to the competitions in Sochi. In total, 14 sports are announced in the program of the Winter Spartakiad, it will repeat the upcoming White Olympics 2026 in Italy. It is also biathlon, alpine skiing, curling, speed skating (including short track), cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, ski jumping, ski mountaineering, snowboarding, figure skating, freestyle, hockey. About 2500 Russian athletes will compete for 108 sets of medals from February 9th to 18th.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko and the Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin, the Spartakiad will be a key sporting event in the country in 2024.
“It is symbolic that the Spartakiad will be held on the days when we will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, one of the most significant events in the recent history of our country,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The main Russian competitions in these sports are regularly held on the Olympic luge and bobsleigh track in Krasnaya Polyana.
Deputy Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Vlasov noted that 12 winter sports are developing in the Kuban and the region will be happy to host competitions of such a high level.
Serafim Timchenko, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Krasnodar Territory, stressed that despite the pressure that some Western countries are trying to exert, domestic sports continue to develop and achieve high results.
Vice world champion in bobsleigh from Kuban Maxim Adrianov said that he expects a high level of competition at the Spartakiad. In his opinion, records at the level of European and world championships can be set at the tournament.
Other types of the Games will be held in the Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Sverdlovsk regions, as well as the Krasnoyarsk Territory. They will also host competitions at the most modern sports facilities.
