Sochi Hosted Table Tennis Spartakiad Tournament

Sochi hosted the final table tennis competitions as part of the 1st Spartakiad of Russia’s strongest athletes. The tournament was hosted by the Yug Sport federal sports base.
The Minister of Sports of the Krasnodar Territory Serafim Timchenko also took part in the opening ceremony.
The table tennis tournament is the only one in the program of the Spartakiad that takes place on the territory of the Kuban.
121 athletes from 20 regions of Russia came to the Olympic capital. The Krasnodar Territory team took 4th place in the overall standings. 8 tennis players played for it, including winners of international and Russian starts Olga Vorobieva, Valeria Kotsyur, Andrey Baibuldin, Arseniy Gusev, Ilya Isakov, Danil Cherkes.
In the women’s individual competition, Olga Vorobyova became the bronze medalist. She is the bronze medalist of the 2017 European Championship.
In the team competition, the Kuban men’s team took second place, losing only to St. Petersburg. In similar women’s events, the team of the Krasnodar Territory became a bronze medalist.
In the team standings among the subjects of Russia, Moscow excelled, the second place was taken by St. Petersburg, the third – by the Samara region.
Earlier at the Spartakiad 21 medals won Kuban athletes.
