Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the city’s readiness to take part in financing the project for the construction of a high-speed railway (HSR) from the capital to St. Petersburg. The decision was made at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev announced that the construction of the high-speed railway would require more than 600 billion rubles from the federal budget. At the first stage, it is planned to launch 28 trains.
Sobyanin noted that all regions through which the HSR will pass, including Moscow, Moscow, Tver, Novgorod and Leningrad regions, as well as St. Petersburg, will participate in financing the project in accordance with their capabilities.
Maxim Liksutov, deputy mayor of Moscow, explained that it is planned to expand the station in Zelenograd, as well as increase the number of tracks and overpasses leading to it. An additional terminal will also be created at the Rizhsky railway station.
