Sobyanin became the first registered candidate in the election of the mayor of Moscow

The Moscow City Electoral Committee has registered the current head of the city, Sergei Sobyanin, as a candidate for the post of mayor of Moscow. As emphasized by the chairman of the commission Olga Kirillova, he became the first registered candidate, transmits “RIA News”.

The decision to register Sobyanin as a candidate for the post of mayor of the city was made at today’s meeting of the Moscow City Electoral Committee. According to deputy chairman of the commission Dmitry Reut, all the documents submitted by him meet all the requirements of the electoral legislation, in particular, all 115 submitted signatures of municipal deputies are reliable.

This year, elections for the post of mayor of Moscow will be held, voting will last from 8 to 10 September. They will be attended by the current Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin (from United Russia), Vice-Speakers of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov (from the Liberal Democratic Party) and Vladislav Davankov (from New People), State Duma deputy, head of the Moscow branch of A Just Russia – Patriots – For the Truth” Dmitry Gusev, Moscow City Duma deputy, grandson of the Communist Party leader Leonid Zyuganov and others.

Sobyanin took over as mayor of Moscow in October 2010 by presidential decree. Since then, he has been re-elected twice, and this year he ran for mayor for the first time, running for United Russia. The politician ran for the elections of 2013 and 2018 as a self-nominated candidate. In the elections to the State Duma in 2021, Sobyanin headed the party list in Moscow.
