Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that an unmanned aerial vehicle heading towards Moscow was destroyed in the Istra urban district by air defense forces.
In his Telegram channel Sobyanin clarified that the drone, which attempted to carry out an attack on the capital, was destroyed on the night of September 17.
Emergency services specialists are working at the scene, the mayor said. According to preliminary data, there was no destruction or casualties, he said.
Later, the head of the municipality, Tatyana Vitusheva, wrote that the fragments of the downed drone presumably fell in the forest between the Stary Svet checkpoint and Novorizhskoe highway. She also clarified that, according to preliminary data, no one was injured when the UAV fell.
