Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu inspected the historical headquarters building of the Moscow Military District on Kosmodamianskaya Embankment after its restoration. Headquarters units will be located in the restored building in March, reported press service Ministry of Defense.
“Colossal story. So many famous people worked here. And of course, huge gratitude to the president and to you for re-establishing the Moscow Military District,” said Sergei Sobyanin. Mr. Shoigu noted that the restoration of the building is a historical event.
According to the presidential decree, the Western Military District will be divided into two new strategic territorial associations of the armed forces – the Moscow and Leningrad military districts. The Moscow Military District will be located in a restored building on Kosmodamianskaya Embankment.
Historical building with an area of more than 15.7 square meters. m was built in 1778–1780. This is a cultural heritage site. Restoration began in October 2023. The headquarters of the Moscow Military District was located there from 1933 to 2010.
